WILL YOU VOTE?

Image
Voting, or voter participation, is critical for democratic governance, meaning citizens have a say in how and who governs them. The decision to vote or not has become debatable in Ghana due to factors of philosophical, practical, and emotional considerations. Among the most widely cited reasons for encouraging voter participation is the fact that if you don't vote for your party or candidate into office, someone else will vote for a party or candidate you don’t want into office. This analogy reflects the power of a single vote in establishing leadership to bring policies affecting the livelihood of citizens. Again, voting is said to be a way of demonstrating patriotism as a tribute to all the sacrifices of the individuals and organizations who fought for the basic right to vote. Voting philosophically fits in well with the social contract theory, with the assumption that a citizen either implicitly or explicitly gives up some of their freedoms, thereby agreeing to exist under the a...

Financial Discipline as a Lifestyle: A Path Towards Sustainable Living

Image
In today's fast-paced world, the management of finances has become more crucial than ever. With every passing minute of our lives, there are expenditures to be met be it for utilities, food, shelter, or transportation. This necessitates that we cultivate a lifestyle of financial discipline, ensuring that for every minute of expenditure, there’s a corresponding income to support it. This concept is particularly relevant in Africa, where many individuals and families rely on meticulous budgeting and income management to navigate economic challenges. In Ghana, for instance, the cost of living continues to rise, with basic necessities becoming increasingly expensive. From the monthly payment of electricity bills to daily food purchases, the financial landscape can be overwhelming. According to the Ghana Statistical Service, inflation rates can fluctuate significantly, impacting the purchasing power of the average consumer. Each minute spent consuming resources demands a keen understa...

Who Is at a Loss: The Nation or the Migrating Graduates/Artisans?

Image
In recent years, Ghana has witnessed an alarming trend: a significant emigration of its young graduates to developed countries such as those in Europe and North America. This outflow primarily encompasses skilled professionals from various fields; engineering, healthcare, finance, and technology as well as artisans like welders, masons, carpenters, tailors, etc who seek more promising career opportunities abroad. Yet, the irony lies in the disheartening reality that many of these individuals find themselves relegated to menial jobs that do not utilize their skills or academic qualifications once they arrive in these foreign lands. This raises a pressing question: who is truly at a loss in this scenario—the nation, Ghana, bereft of its talented youth, or the graduates or artisans themselves, who sacrifice their potential for better financial prospects? Ghanaian brain drain is not a new phenomenon. However, it has gained significant traction over the past decade, driven by various factor...

Don’t Listen to Everything you Hear

Image
Listening is very different from hearing. Hearing can simply be defined as the ability to perceive sound using the auditory sense, better still; getting to know or become aware of something. But listening on the other hand is paying close attention or taking a careful note of the sound that is perceived. This means listening depends on hearing. Anyone with a healthy auditory sense can hear but listening is a choice. This also means, one can hear everything but he or she chooses what to listen to. Hearing depend on your ear as a sense organ while listening should be based on your sense of judgement. This also means hearing is passive and listening is active. Meaning by listening, one is doing what he or she has heard. That is why it is important not to listen to everything you hear. This is because hearing and listening can be likened to production and consumption. There are many products or goods that are produced but one can not consume it all. We only choose what is good f...

INFLUX OF NETWORK MARKETING BUSINESSES IN GHANA

Image
It seems there is a new network marketing company every single day. I have even lost count of existing ones. Am even getting scared. God should save us. But I like the way they have turned Ghanaians into motivational speakers. You hear them say “Rise up and take your destiny into your own hands”, “Be your own Boss”, “Financial freedom/independence”, etc. Go ahead and take your destinies from God and manage it yourselves. Don’t forget being a network marketer doesn’t make you an entrepreneur, because that is someone’s company. So technically, you are still working for someone. So, tell me what type of entrepreneur will network marketing make you? And we have people leaving (resigning) professions like nursing, teaching, banking, etc to focus on network marketing to be their own bosses. How secured is that network marketing business? If the business collapses today like the banks, will you go on the streets and demonstrate that the Government should employ you again as doctor or...

Politics in Ghana.

Politics in Ghana of late, is becoming appalling. Instead of addressing pressing issues, they go about insulting each other, calling each other all sort of names. It makes me sad, because it has not got anything important for the youth. Unemployment is on the increase, social vices are common everywhere. There is no week passing without accident, rape, robbery cases, should that be the issue? It is time, we the youth come together. When we are together, we makeup a strong voice to speak against these politicians who are only interested in filling their Swiss bank accounts. God of Isaac, Save Ghana.
